by Mayowa Adeniyi How To Overcome Premarital and Extramarital Sex is one of God’s gift to mankind. A gift for his pleasure, procreation and companionship with the wife of his youth once he reaches the stage of ‘it’s not good that a man should be alone’. Aside it been a covenant entered into it with his totality, it’s a gift to be unraveled only in marriage.
The ignorance of this simple but hard to believe fact has lead many into premarital and extramarital sexual affairs. The society we live in doesn’t shun these forms of sex but sees it as a norm and a thing to come by for those who can’t abstain. Whether you believe it or not, the consequence of premarital and extramarital sex is difficult to live with. I’m sure you know the consequence. But there are those who are willing to come out of it but are tied down because they regret it after every act.
Does contraceptive saves you from its effect? Is the solution in abstinence when all you see or feel sets the tone for sex? Would the removal of one’s sexual organs solve this problem? No!
I’m not saying abstinence isn’t good but of what difference is it with a porn addict and the person who did the real thing? The simplest solution to overcoming premarital or extramarital sex is to work on your mind.
The mind is the seat of a man’s emotion, it determine his mood, desire and feelings. If a person’s mood isn’t geared towards having sex, there’s no how you’d turn him or her on.
For instance, can a dead man be sexually aroused? Until you have won the battle in your mind, you’ll be defeated even after having a series of prayer and fasting. The mind of a natural and carnal man cannot overcome sexual sins. Because they function with their senses and are influenced by their immediate environment, they will fall into the act regardless of their yearly resolutions or determination. How to work on your mind
1. Ask God for a new heart
That you ask God for a new heart isn’t the removal of the physical one that pumps blood, but having a new one that comes from within through faith in Jesus.
The old one has been corrupted by Satan which every natural and carnal man has. But those who are born anew have a new one.
David asked for a clean heart which is void of sin and ungodliness in his prayers in Psalm 51. No mind theory, philosophy or self-help techniques would give you a new heart except God through prayer.
And as new wines are kept in new bottles, a new heart is meant to be protected.
2. Guard it with all diligence
Now that you’ve gotten a new or clean heart by faith, it’s important to guard it with all diligence lest it becomes defiled or corrupted.
Since your heart determines everything about your life, you must guard it against lustful thoughts and sexual imaginations.
It’s not a crime to see a seductively dressed lady, but it becomes a crime when you undress and commit the act with her all in your mind. Once evil thoughts flows in, ‘exhale’ them by breathing in the word of God.
Doing this consistently keep your mind refreshed and cleaned.
3. Renew it daily To renew means to restore to freshness or to a previous state of cleanliness. Your mind is like an engine, if you don’t ‘lubricate’ it daily with God’s Word and it’s left alone, all what you see, feel or hear are enough to pollute it. Paul told the Romans not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of their minds so that they can prove what is good, acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2).
You can’t overcome the temptation of sin if you’re defeated in your mind. Your mind determines to a large extent whether you’d yield or flee like Joseph did and it’s function of whose word – God or the devil’s, you have in it. I have just given you proven and practical steps to break free from sexual sins or any other, but importantly, you have to desire to be free. If there’s no desire to overcome, you’ll remain in bondage.
Do you desire to overcome? Come to the man at Calvary who died for your sins and whose blood would make atonement for it. Make Him your Lord and you’ll walk in victory, defeating Satan, sin and the world.
